I sign up for yoga class, but it's the first thing to give as soon as work demands increase. As a freelancer, I feel some push to take the work when it comes. I also find that I block out times to dance or walk, but when I see how much work I have I often drop that too. With two kids, one under 2 and almost full time work, I find a challenge to get it in. I try to do some wiht the boys--walking, dancing, but I'm not great about that either. Anyone have any ways they keep themselves on the path when it comes to exercise?

Be consistent and do it first thing in the morning~there typically aren't too many things affecting your schedule when everyone else is still asleep! Applaud yourself every single time you are workout~after all, you are a working mom with two kids and just finding time to take a shower can be a challenge sometimes!

I also find it hard to make the time to exercise because I've set unrealistic goals for myself like 5 times a week in the afternoon (as a mom I'm sure you can imagine the challenges that come up!). After a year of watching that not work for myself, my new resolution is this: a minimum of 4 times a week, first thing in the morning, even if it's only for 30 minutes (because that's more than I was doing 4 months ago!). Baby steps in the right direction are still steps.

With regards to the yoga, if you find it hard to make it to the class, I recommend ordering a DVD for at home from Power Yoga with Bryan Kest. My friends and I used to go attend his sessions in Santa Monica years ago and he's all about "respecting your limits" and not pushing yourself too hard. I can pop in the DVD every once in a while for an hour and my 6 year old will even join in (there was a time when he requested to do yoga with me!).

Hope this helps! Star

I'm now also, struggling with finding time for the exercise (again). I was on a roll and then the kids went back to school and their social lives started up again and of course, the first thing to go, was my time for myself. I've recommitted to use the weekends for yoga and at least one long one with my other half; during the week, I will try to get at least 3 workouts in. If anyone out there wants to keep me accountable...I could use the support! My mornings are no longer mine.....

I struggle with this EVERYDAY! I was doing so well as I joined the gym and a bootcamp class. Three days per week and guaranteed to kick my butt!  Did really well and really enjoyed it, much to my surprise.  The problem is, I join something, do well, then get bored.  I, too, find that I let exercise be the first thing to go when family demands get overwhelming.  I really wish I could change this about myself.  Exercise should be one of the first things I do not the first thing to get pushed aside.  I feel your frustration!

Three ingredients for success in getting regular exercise:

1)  Do it 4-6 days a week, first thing in the AM - get up at 5 AM if you have to, even if it means you need to go to bed at 9 PM.
2)  A treadmill - weather can no longer be an excuse for not running or power walking
3) An iPod filled with music that makes you want to dance.  I literally sing and dance on my treadmill.  My family appreciates that I keep the treadmill in the basement. Thumbs%20Up
